Ever since the entrance to the dendrological park around the Teleki Castle in Gornești, you realise the grandeur and pomp that these places had in the past. Today they are waiting to tell the story of our ancestors, of those who participated over the centuries in the life of the community, but also in the great history.
Over the centuries the Teleki family built numerous imposing castles, above all in the northern and eastern parts of Transylvania, in the Chioar region and in the Mureș valley. From the end of the 17th century Gornești became one of the family’s most important estate centres, and the castle here — nicknamed “the jewel of the Mureș” — is one of the most valuable examples of baroque architecture in Transylvania.
Built between 1771 and 1778, the Teleki Castle of Gorneşti is one of the most representative achievements of Transylvanian Baroque, set in a Baroque-style park adorned with statuettes of mythological figures. It was built in a U shape, with a more prominent central wing housing the portal and the ceremonial staircase on the ground floor.
